We celebrate and thank our volunteers who give of their time and talents – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – helping the people who live and work in our community. Our dedicated volunteers provide disaster relief services, participate in community events, and facilitate training to empower and prepare our community to respond to life-threatening emergencies that can happen at any place, any time – among many other vital services.

Volunteers make up the majority of the American Red Cross’ workforce.

Red Cross Month is a great opportunity for you to learn for the first time, or brush up on your training, about how to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters or other life-threatening emergencies that may affect your family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and community members at any place, any time.

Imagine:

  • while camping in the woods, your best friend is bitten by a snake…
  • you’re at work, walk into a conference room and find a colleague unconscious…
  • your teenage daughter is babysitting the neighbor’s two year old son and he starts choking…
  • during a visit to a lake, you see someone drowning…
  • your neighbor is cleaning the gutter on their roof,  falls off the ladder and breaks their arm…
  • you’re taking your dog for a walk in the park and it becomes injured…

Are you prepared to respond to similar disasters or other life-threatening emergencies?

  • If your answer is “yes”, that’s fantastic! Please encourage other people in your life to do the same. After all, it could be your life they might be saving!
  • If your answer is “no”, you certainly can be! We’re here to help you. Now is a great time to learn!

Get educated, equipped and empowered to help save the lives of your family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and community members today!

March is Red Cross Month

Each year the President of the United States proclaims March “Red Cross Month” giving the American Red Cross an opportunity to recognize the vital services that help save millions of lives. On February 27, 2009, President Barack Obama, Honorary Chairman of the American Red Cross, signed a Presidential Proclamation marking March 2009 as “Red Cross Month” encouraging all Americans to support this humanitarian organization. (Click here for Proclamation details.)

We  celebrate those who volunteer of their time, donate their money and give blood enabling Red Cross to continue saving lives.

American Red Cross of the National Capital Area’s mission is to help the people of our community prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters or other life-threatening emergencies that may be local, state-wide, national or international in nature.

Although our Chapter comprises of over 100 staff members, we cannot continue fulfilling our mission without over 4,000 dedicated volunteers who give of their time. Together, staff members and volunteers support the Chapter and help the community by teaching health and safety courses, rotating 24-hour-duty shifts as Disaster Action Team members responding to local disasters 365 days a year, welcoming home wounded U.S. service men and women returning to the United States, participating in community partnerships and events to help educate people in emergency preparedness, assist in fundraising events and so much more!

Our volunteers work in a variety of services such as Community, Disaster, International, Education & Training, Military and Blood.  Join our Chapter and help save the lives of your family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and community members today! www.redcrossnca.org

In addition to having volunteers who help us provide these services, donations are needed to enable our Chapter to continue these critical services daily. Help can’t wait! Donate to our Chapter and be a part of saving lives today! www.redcrossnca.org
