Lightning Safety Awareness Week June 21 – 27

June 22, 2009

The summer season officially began this month and thunderstorms and lightning are common during this time of year.

A number of people die from lightning strikes annually, and hundreds of others experience permanent injury.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) at National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA),  deaths by lightning strikes in 2008, 32% took place under a tree and 29% on water.

Take the time to prepare yourself and your family to enjoy the summer safely.

Know what to do when:
–  a storm is approaching
– you’re caught outside during a storm
– the storm has passed
– someone is struck by lightning
